STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The "cessation of touring agreement" goes into effect after 2015
  • "Everything must come to an end," drummer Tommy Lee says
  • Agreement is "a peaceful decision to move on to other endeavors," band's lawyer says
  • "The Final Tour" starts in July 2014

Los Angeles (CNN) -- All four members of Motley Crue signed an agreement Tuesday that will permanently dissolve the legendary rock group after a final tour.

Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee appeared in a Hollywood hotel Tuesday for a signing ceremony for a "cessation of touring agreement," which their lawyer said would bring a peaceful end to the group.

"Other bands have split up over rancor or the inability of people to get along, but this is mutual among all four original members and a peaceful decision to move on to other endeavors and to confirm it with a binding agreement," attorney Doug Mark said.

Motley Crue has sold more than 80 million albums since hitting the road in 1981, but drummer Tommy Lee said, "Everything must come to an end."

"We always had a vision of going out with a big f**king bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with one or two original band members," said Lee, who is the youngest member at 51. "Our job here is done."

Guitarist Mick Mars, the oldest band member at 62, said the group's 33 years have had "more drama than 'General Hospital.'"

Vocalist Vince Neil, 52, said he'll miss the group, but it's not an end to his rock career. "I feel there are a lot of great opportunities and exciting projects after Motley."

The first leg of "The Final Tour" starts in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 2.

The termination agreement becomes effective at the end of 2015, after a global tour that will include Alice Cooper.

"Motley Crue and Alice Cooper -- A match made in Armageddon?" said Cooper.

After Hours Traders Send $AAPL Down $43.50 on Guidance & iPhone Sales - The Mac Observer

OopsShares of Apple Inc. fell sharply in after-hours trading Tuesday as traders reacted negatively to Apple's guidance for the March quarter and iPhone sales that were less than expected. Shares of $AAPL dipped to US$507.00, down $43.50 (-7.90 percent), in the wake of Apple's earnings report in the after-hours session.

After-hours session typically have an exaggerated effect on Apple's stock in either direction compared to regular session trading the next day. It's doubtful that $AAPL will open as low as Tuesday's after-hours low, but investors definitely have things to be tense about despite record revenues and record earnings per share for the quarter.

"The real problem is the revenue guidance," JMP Securities analyst Alex Gauna told Marketwatch. "The mid-point of the guidance has them back to a no-growth story. People were hoping for more, and they essentially guided flat year-over-year growth."

In particular, Apple began selling iPhones with China Mobile, the world's largest carrier, in January. The company also added Japan's DoCoMo, but despite the two high-profile deals, Apple's only guided for revenues between $42 billion and $44 billion.

At the mid-point, Apple would turn in flat revenue growth, and that's not what investors were expecting as they pushed Apple's stock higher in the weeks leading to Tuesday's earnings report.

In addition, Apple's record iPhone sales for the quarter—51 million units—were below consensus estimates of 55 million to 56 million units. That's a significant miss, and it played a big role in initial investor disappointment.

"The iPhone number was much less than expected," Mike Walkley of Canaccord Genuity told Marketwatch. " And the seasonality is off despite China Mobile., even though the overall gross margins were strong."

Apple ended the regular session on Tuesday at $550.50, up $4.43 (+0.81 percent), on heavy volume of 17.45 million shares trading hands.

Eric Lawson, who portrayed Marlboro man, dies at 72 - Washington Post (blog)

Eric Lawson, who portrayed the rugged Marlboro man in cigarette ads during the late 1970s, died Jan. 10 at his home in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was 72.

The cause was respiratory failure because of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, said his wife, Susan Lawson.

Mr. Lawson was an actor with bit parts on such TV shows as “Baretta” and “The Streets of San Francisco” when he was hired to appear in print Marlboro ads from 1978 to 1981. His other credits include “Charlie’s Angels,” “Dynasty” and “Baywatch.”

His wife said injuries sustained on the set of a western film ended his career in 1997.

Mr. Lawson, who had smoked since age 14, later appeared in an anti-smoking commercial that parodied the Marlboro man and an “Entertainment Tonight” segment to discuss the negative effects of smoking.

A few actors and models who pitched Marlboro brand cigarettes have died of smoking-related diseases. They include David Millar, who died of emphysema in 1987, and David McLean, who died of lung cancer in 1995.

Besides his wife, survivors include six children; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Steven Tyler's Impromptu Singing & Odd Mustache Stun At The Grammys - Hollywood Life

Steven Tyler Grammys

Steven usually knows how to get the crowd going but we have to say it was pretty uncomfortable when he belted out one of Motown legend Smokey Robinson’s hit songs while sporting an awkward mustache during the 2014 Grammys on Jan. 26.

We can’t decide which was worse at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards — Steven Tyler‘s weird mustache or his disappointing on-stage rendition of Smokey Robinson‘s hit song “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me.” What was he thinking?

Steven Opens Up About Drug Use

The former Aerosmith frontman debuted his untamed mustache on Jan. 26 when he took the stage to present an award with Smokey. To add insult to injury, Steven began singing Smokey’s song and it didn’t sound good — not in the least.

Steven, 65, seemed to thing he could just belt out a lyric as if he were Jennifer Hudson, but he got it all wrong! In a crackly voice, Steven totally butchered the line “I don’t like you, but I love you,” and it only got worse from there.

Smokey, 73, was caught off guard when Steven began to sing and he just stood there, laughing. It was definitely an awkward moment!

When Steven finally finished, Smokey was still laughing. “Thank you, Steven,” he said. “That was beautiful.” Um, not exactly!

Steven Tyler Reveals Crush On Taylor Swift

Oh well, it was all in good fun and at least Steven seemed to be enjoying himself at the show. We hope he got a chance to hang out with his crush Taylor Swift backstage!

As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Steven recently revealed that he was crushing on Taylor and thought she was hot!

“She’s blonde with all the hits,” he told Us Weekly. ”Taylor Swift. She’s hot. More than that, she’s beyond talented. I have to write a song with her.”

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you like Steven’s new ‘stache? Let us know.

Weather Channel Challenges DirecTV's Numbers in Carriage Dispute - Multichannel News

Programmer Questions DBS Leader's Tally That Only '100' Are Concerned about Disconnect

Programmer Questions DBS Leader's Tally That Only '100' Are Concerned about Disconnect

In the latest salvo in its carriage contretemps with DirecTV, The Weather Channel is challenging the DBS leader’s numbers.

The programmer, whose service was dropped from DirecTV’s air on Jan. 13 in a carriage dispute, says it has bought ads in the Jan. 28 editions of The Wall Street Journal and Los Angeles Times under the headline: “DirecTV’s 99.9995% Fiction.”

The number refers to the percentage of customers president and CEO Mike White says on the company's website have voted to remain with DirecTV. In his remarks made on Jan. 24, White also said that Weather Channel has lost one-third of its viewers over the past two years and is only worth one-quarter of the programmer’s asking price for a new license fee deal.

Given DirecTV’s 20 million subscribers, Weather Channel questions that only 100 of its customer are concerned about the disconnect. Weather Channel’s ad opens by saying millions of customers have made their voices heard on its Web site. A look at http://www.keeptheweatherchannel.com/ on Monday night put the programmer’s tally at over 4.8 million who had visited the site, 750,000 who complained to DirecTV and over 139,000 who have pledged to switch providers.

Tuesday’s ad marks a follow-up to the open letter from Weather Channel chairman and CEO David Kenny that ran in the above-mentioned newspapers, as well as The New York Times and The Washington Post, on Jan. 22 which urged DirecTV to waive steep cancellation fees.

The Jan. 28 ad also includes testimonials from two customers one of whom says she will drop DirecTV, while the other notes that since customers don’t have any say in constructing channel lineups  “it’s only fair that we get the chance to switch companies without being held liable to pay termination fees.”

Weather says it couldn’t agree more and urges DirecTV to reinstate the channel to its lineup or let customers “switch without an unfair fee.”

The full ad copy can be read below:

DIRECTV’s 99.9995% FICTION

Since DIRECTV dropped The Weather Channel, millions of customers have made their voices heard on our website, like Liz who wrote: “I am a college instructor at a branch campus in rural Missouri. We get seriously dangerous weather here—tornadoes, ice storms, blizzards, electrical storms and floods. I have depended on The Weather Channel for years to decide if it is too dangerous to have classes because many of my students live way out in the country on dirt roads that become hazardous. I will drop DIRECTV.”

But instead of listening, DIRECTV’s CEO posted an open letter saying 99.9995% of his customers don’t care about losing The Weather Channel.

Really????? Have they read their own Facebook page?

DIRECTV’s 99.9995% number means they want you to believe that only 100 out of DIRECTV’s 20 million subscribers care about The Weather Channel. Yes, only 100.

Does DIRECTV think everyone’s stupid or just not paying attention?

In either case, if DIRECTV truly believes nobody cares about The Weather Channel, then it should have no problem waiving its punishing cancellation fee for those who must change providers.

Customers like Nicole who wrote: “Since subscribers don’t get a say in lineup changes, then it’s only fair that we get the chance to switch companies without being held liable to pay termination fees.”

We couldn’t agree more.

DIRECTV should do the right thing: Put The Weather Channel back in the lineup or let customers switch without an unfair fee.
