NEW YORK – The Rangers beat the Flyers and Penguins in seven game to reach the conference finals, then finished off the Montreal Canadiens with a 1-0 win Thursday night at the Garden.
Next up: the Stanley Cup Final.
It's been two decades since the 1994 Rangers ended the franchise's championship drought at 54 years by winning the Stanley Cup.
Now that they’re finally back in the finals, they will be a sure bet to be underdogs whether they face the Los Angeles Kings or Chicago Blackhawks.
The Kings are up 3-games-to-2 in the Western Conference final, which continues Friday night in Los Angeles.
The Blackhawks are defending Stanley Cup champs, the Kings won in 2012 and either team will have home ice in the finals, which begin next Wednesday.
Can the Rangers win?
Sure.
Here are 3 reasons why the Rangers can beat the Blackhawks:
1. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist is capable of equaling or outdueling Kings goalie Jonathan Quick
2. The Rangers are very good are winning low-scoring games, and they figure to be in a lot of them if they play the Kings, who prefer to play that way.
3. The Rangers have more team speed than the Kings.
Here are 3 reasons why the Rangers can beat the Blackhawks:
1. Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford won a Cup last season, but he’s not in Lundqvist's class.
2. The Rangers were one of the best road teams in hockey this season, going 25-14-2 in the regular season and 6-4 in the playoffs.
3. The Rangers were the better team when they faced Chicago in the regular season, winning 3-2 at the United Center in January and 2-1 at Madison Square Garden in February.
