Emma Appleton tweeted a screen shot of a message she claims that she was texted by Richardson via her account over the weekend.
The image depicted a text, allegedly sent from Richardson’s phone, which appeared to read: “If I can f**k you I will book you for a.shoot for Vogue in NY[sic]”
The message quickly went viral, but has since been deleted from her account.
A representative for Richardson almost immediately branded the text “a fake”, but Appleton countered his denial, insisting to Buzzfeed US that she believed it was authentic and that she didn’t want any “abuse or attention” as a result of her decision to post it. She acknowledged, however, that it could have been sent from a Facebook account impersonating Richardson.
The photographer, who famously shot Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” music video and has worked with Girls star Lena Dunham among others, has previously been the subject of separate allegations from models – all of which he has denied. No criminal investigations have ever been instigated.
One post on Reddit in March by model Charlotte Waters described an interaction she claims she had with the photographer that she alleges started off as a typical fashion shoot, but apparently escalated into unwanted sexual advances. She then claims Richardson asked her to perform oral sex on him. Now deleted, the post was originally anonymous before Waters came forward as the source of the allegation.
Terry Richardson has branded the message Emma Appleton tweeted as "a fake" Richardson published a response to Waters in the Huffington Post (US). In the post, titled “Correcting the Rumours”, he claimed to be the victim of an “emotionally-charged witch hunt” and denied the allegations.
Models Jamie Peck, Liskula Cohen and Rie Rasmussen have also accused Richardson of sexual harassment.
Vogue US has since responded to request for comment, telling US Magazine:
“The last assignment Terry Richardson had for US Vogue appeared in the July 2010 issue and we have no plans to work with him in the future.”
However, Vogue Paris, who last employed Richardson in February this year, is yet to address the claims.
A representative has since told The Independent: “Terry Richardson did NOT reach out to this woman. It was sent from a Facebook page that is fake. Terry has no knowledge of who sent this.
“Mr. Richardson has retained online forensic expert Theo Yedinsky to determine the actual origin of the faked posting.”
