A tragic story hit the web on March 16 claiming that Wayne Knight, who starred as Jerry Seinfeld’s arch rival, Newman, in the early 90′s TV show ‘Seinfeld,’ had passed away. Was the story a hoax or is Newman really gone?
Wayne Knight, 58, is dead — or is he? An unsettling story claiming that the veteran comedy actor had died in a car crash hit the web on March 16 — causing Wayne’s fans to freak out and mourn his loss. But was it all just a hoax?
Wayne Knight Proves He’s Alive In Wake Of Death Hoax Story
Is Wayne dead? That’s what everyone seemed to be asking on March 16 when a viral story hit the web claiming that the veteran Seinfeld actor (Newman) had passed away in a tragic car accident. Fortunately, the story was just a hoax.
Wayne immediately took to his Twitter account to let the world know that blood was still pumping through his veins and he’s still got plenty of air in his lunges.
The hoax started when a website called TMZ.today reported the actor had died when his vehicle hit a semi-tractor-trailer near the Pennsylvania/New York border.
The crazy thing is — the website looks just like TMZ — even features fake tweets from witnesses of the “crash.” However, none of the Twitter accounts that supposedly wrote the tweets actually exist.
Fake Website Claims Wayne Died In Car Crash
Wayne is not the only celebrity who has had to provide “proof of life” recently.
Austin Russell (Chumlee) of the History Channel’s Pawn Stars, fell victim to a death hoax after tabloid site ebuzzd.com ran a story claiming the funny-man died of a heart attack. He took to Twitter on March 13 to debunk the news. Ebuzzd also featured a story on Betty White‘s death, that’s obviously not true.
