The 16-year-old runner who died Sunday after completing the Shamrock Half-Marathon was Cameron Gallagher.

Gallagher was athletic and active and went to Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. She had transferred from St. Gertrude High School, a Catholic school in the same city.

A “Rest in Peace Cameron” page has been created on Facebook and states that the teenager died on Sunday.

Ed Brazle, a spokesman for Virginia Beach emergency medical services, said Gallagher collapsed at the end of the race. Medics took her directly to a first aid tent, then to a Virginia Beach hospital, where she died.

Her cause of death has not been determined, he said.

More than 80 EMS workers were posted along the race course and 19 runners received medical assistance on Sunday, Brazle said.
